MYPs Get Green Fingers In Keighley

MYPs from the Bradford and Keighley Youth Parliament’s Keighley Constituency got their hands dirty in the name of community pride today as they were joined by local residents to place a stone and plant flowers welcoming people to the Bracken Bank estate in Keighley.

The project was funded by streets ahead and forms part on one of the parliament's priorities priorities, to help clean up the Bracken Bank estate.  The MYPs are also working on projects to combat racism and to clean up Keighley town centre.

Local young people turned out to help the MYPs place the stone and all the activitity attracted quite a crowd. Local resident Lorraine Mann was impressed saying "it's absolutely lovely", "its about time this community got something good, they deserve it" added Donna Watson from the Bracken Bank Community Support Group.

The Children from the Community Support Group's gardening group will be adding to the flower beds on Tuesday 8th of April by planting some more plants. They will also be looking after the plants all year round.

Keighley MYP Joanne Pybus said “I am happy to be part of helping the Bracken Bank community with this project and I hope this will be the first of many times we work with the young people of Bracken Bank.”
